[ Something about this sounds familiar-- although unfortunately he is not a mind reader it bothers him enough that there's a pause for a moment before he considers his next words. ]

Some things are what they are sometimes because people don't bother to think about changing them or they just believe they can't do anything about it so they just decide it's fine as is, even if they're pretty dissatisfied with how things are.

I can't pretend to know your circumstances or your whole story or whatever, because I don't, and I don't usually waste my time because of your involvement with those bastards running this show. Though, if you ask me (which you didn't), your words sound like they're coming from not only your usual self, but also like you're kinda giving up here.
