[ ...It's nearly five o'clock on Saturday morning. What the fuck is wrong with you, Inigo, who shows up this early with a chessboard. ]

Hey. Want to play a game or two with me, Adjudicator?

I mean, apparently Juri also does that, seeing as he's awake and all, but. Still.]

[This is gonna be so handwaved, it's going to be great.]

...You've been holding up all right?

[That's...delayed, in that weird way that people tend to have when they're just now sort of realizing that it's probably weird as shit to not ask that every once in a while.]

[ Look at this handwaved chess, it's beautiful. He's quiet for a moment once Juri's question is out there. Hesitating. ]

...I'm still kind of messed up over what happened to Mozu, to be honest. But otherwise I'm holding up okay, I guess.

I think everybody was.

[...He's not excluding himself from that, probably. What he did to Yang's face was kind of. Yeah.]

She was pretty well-liked by a lot of people.

You liked her too, didn't you? She showed me that stuffed cat you made for her. And then you did... that to Yang.

...She was really decent.

[He doesn't seem to have a better word than "decent", even if that isn't quite the word he wanted.]

She didn't really like me at all, I don't think. Understandably, because I'm not here to be liked. But she was decent anyway, and that says a lot about a person.

...She was, yeah. Mozu was humble but had an indomitable inner strength and kindness. I liked that about her.

[ He pauses, contemplating his next move. ]

She seemed a bit unsure of you, when we spoke. She said she didn't get you at all. I can't say I get you either, but you're surprisingly easy to talk to? It's weird.

...I don't really get you guys either, a lot of the time.

[And that's strangely straightforward, really, not like he's trying to get a certain response or another; just kind of a fact.]

I mean, I get why you do what you do, because despite what a lot of people here seem to think I understand cause and effect. And I understand that certain personality traits will cause certain reactions to things, too. That's obvious, and it's easy.

But there's a lot of underlying things that are harder to pin down. Usually they're not too important to me. Kind of annoying sometimes, but not always. But certain things you guys do are interesting, too.

What are these "certain things" you find interesting?

You guys tend to be really good to people who objectively don't deserve it, for one thing.

...That trial was kind of a mess. I'm surprised we didn't do more to him, given how heated things got.

I'm pretty sure everyone could tell, but I liked that trial.

Isn't it obvious by now? I like seeing what people do when they're given the chance to do anything. When they're pushed to their limits. Heisenberg just found his in a different place than most people.

He was an interesting man. He hated me, of course. But the one time he talked to me, it was fascinating. So I liked seeing him at the trial, too.

That almost makes me feel like we're bugs in a jar and you're the kid casually observing and waiting to see who eats who.

[ He moves one of his knights, hoping to bait Juri into a trap. ]

...Say, if things had gotten really out of hand and we had ganged up on and killed Walter instead of letting you execute him, who would have been responsible for it? Everyone involved, or just the person who dealt the fatal blow?

...According to the rules of the game, just the person who dealt the killing blow.

[...Let's avoid that for now, though hell if he's sure how to do that without screwing himself otherwise.]

...If two people team up - let's call them A and B - and they decide to kill C, both of them holding the murder weapon when they deliver the killing blow... would both A and B be responsible for it?

[God, there is so much awkward shifting of pieces around, he's fucking bad at this.]

Maybe we should play something else next time. [ It's more satisfying to win when his opponent is actually good, this is just... meh. He moves a rook and checks Juri's king. ]
